Reports to: End to End Supplier Quality Manager

Key Internal Partners: Purchasing, R&D, Supply Chain, Plant Quality, and Regulatory

Location: Nampa, ID or Traverse City, MI

Job Summary:

The Supplier Quality Engineer will work directly with the End to End Supplier Quality Manager, the Purchasing Department, R&D, Factory Quality, and the Regulatory Manager to ensure the quality management of suppliers of raw and packaging materials used by our sites in Nampa, ID and Traverse City, MI. They will be responsible for leading working groups consisting of suppliers and in-house employees.

Job Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Risk assessment of new supplier sites
    • Obtaining responses to quality questionnaires sent to suppliers
    • Analyzing responses to quality questionnaires received from suppliers
    • Obtaining additional information following the analysis of questionnaires (control plans etc.)
    • Obtaining certificates concerning supplier sites
    • Writing summaries following the completion of risk analysis
    • Disseminating these summaries in-house to interested departments    
  • Risk assessment of new raw and packaged materials to be referenced
    • Obtaining necessary information from suppliers (data sheets, certificates, HACCP studies, analysis reports, etc.)
    • Analyzing the information received
    • Writing summaries of completed risk analysis
    • Disseminating these summaries in-house to interested departments
  • Validating specifications with suppliers and communicating pertaining documents to appropriate departments
    • Obtaining specifications signed by the suppliers
    • Validating internal specifications
    • Communicating signed specifications to the appropriate departments
  • Implementing and enforcing monitoring plans of the raw and packaged materials used by the factories
    • Proposing monitoring plans for raw materials, taking into account the results of previous years, newly referenced raw materials, applicable regulations, and alerts from official services
    • Ensuring that the monitoring plan is followed by the factories after the validation of the budget
    • Implementing and monitoring indicators of compliance with monitoring plans
    • Reporting
  • Support NCMR (Non-Conforming Material Report) process for raw and packaging materials
    • Prepare communication to suppliers of evidence of a supplier non-conformance
    • Work with plant quality to determine nature and severity of non-conformance
      • Downtime analysis
      • Defect qualifications
    • Manage supplier root cause analysis process
      • Toyota A3 or DMAIC
  • Ensure compliance and food safety with raw and packaging suppliers
    • Work with purchasing to obtain pertinent documents (HACCP plan, non-GMO/organic certifications, COA etc.)
    • Manage electronic controlled document space for supplier information
    • Ensure testing for compliance to Materne specification
  • Drive continuous improvement at supplier and Materne locations
    • Manage small teams to lead improvement projects
    • Develop one point lessons to communicate protocols
    • Lead efforts in Both Nampa, ID and Traverse City, MI
  • All other duties as assigned

Key Performance Indicator (KPI):

  • Number of NCMRs/year
  • Accuracy/completion of documentation
  • Existing plant quality KPI (targets for customer complaints, right first time, eliminating food safety risk, asset performance improvement)

Position Requirements:

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, or Engineering

EXPERIENCE

  • 3-5 years of quality experience within a manufacturing site
  • Food experience required

SKILLS

  • Strong documentation skills
  • Able to prioritize and respond to “internal customer” demands according to business needs and priorities.
  • Autonomous
  • Ability to lead people who don’t directly report to you
  • Strong interpersonal & team building skills.

PHYSICAL & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able work in normal office conditions.
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 8 hours per day 
  • Willing to travel 1 week per month
