Job Summary:

The Sr. Manager, Customer Strategy & Planning is responsible for the sales customer strategy, planning, and trade-spend management in an innovative category aiming to maximize sales opportunities within the marketplace. This role is responsible for creating and supporting the achievement of brand/category sales objective by translating marketing imperative into trade strategies derived from insights and analytics. This position is also responsible for the co-development with Marketing of an effective trade strategy and establishing tactical trade goals into specific programs that will insure achievement of the annual volume and profit plan. The Sr. Manager, Customer Strategy & Planning must be a quick learner and have a wide experience in sales fundamentals including:  broker/retail team communication & KPI management, coordinate national/regional/customer trade strategy, supporting sales target setting & gap analysis, collaborate with finance to manage the trade & slotting budgets, make trade re-allocation recommendations, identify new business development opportunities, and provide fact based perspective of monthly volume forecast.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide sales/trade expertise in the development of all consumer promotion programs, supporting materials and go-to-market insight in the development of innovative consumer promotional materials.
    • Integrate the brand and business strategy with the customer strategies
    • Serve as the voice of the customer and the field sales force to the business unit
    • Coordinate field sales force communication, promotional calendars, FSI schedules, promotional forecasts, and requests from the field (e.g. samples, new launch kits, etc.)
    • Development of new item launches process in the respective brand/category to support the customer team’s ability to maximize sales from date of entry into the marketplace.
  • Provide strategic and tactical input to the annual planning process through the development of the annual trade marketing review and co-development, with marketing, of the annual trade/sales strategy for the category
    • Develop allocation and deployment strategy
    • Make recommendations on trade funds, quotas, sales target, funding levels
    • Provide insight and recommendations on wise promotional investments
    • Partner with Field Sales to develop strategic promotional plans that align to brand strategy and customer opportunities
    • Ensure customer targets & trade plans are on track and/or gaps are properly identified
  • Provide leadership for the planning process by the development/improvement of the key elements, insuring timely execution and management
    • Work with Brand Management to develop forecasts for new item launches and strategic initiatives
    • With finance as a supporting role, develop the trade budget, optimizing brand merchandising plans based on competitive activity & volume goals
    • Partner with the brand on key strategic program development focused on driving sales
    • Act as point of contact for Marketing
  • Track category/brand performance, on an ongoing basis, to insure that volume goals are achieved within trade spending parameters. Incorporate review of problem/opportunity markets, with focus on development of action plan to address, as integral part of the planning process
    • Track volume forecast for new item launches
    • Consolidate data in a meaningful format from which conclusions can be easily drawn
    • Performs analytical work and provides recommendation based on output as needed
    • Seeks new methods to organize information in a format that lends itself to easy decision making
    • Provide insight on process improvement to decrease complexity and enhance communication and efficiency
    • Insure that payback analysis process is used to evaluate all incremental/defensive spending requests

Position Requirements:

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sales, Marketing or similar field
  • Master’s Degree a plus

EXPERIENCE

  • 7+ years’ experience in sales, marketing, financial controlling or related fields
  • 3+ years’ experience in trade marketing internally and/or externally
  • Has owned a customer P&L

SKILLS

  • Demonstrated sales and/or analytical experience managing multiple priorities
  • General knowledge of sales, trade, category management and marketing concepts and methods
  • Demonstrated ability to execute sales and marketing tactics as well as assist in the development of tracking mechanisms
  • Strong ability to be cross functional
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong analytical ability
  • Ability to independently create and manipulate data in MS Excel spreadsheets
  • Ability to independently create presentations in MS PowerPoint
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

PHYSICAL & TRAVELS REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able work in normal office conditions
  • 15-20% travel required
